EUREKA Q & A

AN IMPORTANT NOTE: We’ve recently received story ideas from some of you.  While we love your enthusiasm, as previously stated, this website cannot accept unsolicited story material. Yes, we know you have tons of great spec “Eureka” ideas, but PLEASE… DON’T send them to us.  We won’t read them, because The Sci-Fi Channel would yell at us if we did.

THANKS!!!

And now, onto YOUR QUESTIONS and OUR ANSWERS:

  1. Any idea when the show will be on in Canada?  Good news! We’ve just learned that Eureka Season Three will be airing in Canada starting Tuesday, July 29th, the same day as our U.S. premiere. Hopefully, this won’t change.

  1. What’s the deal with the season split of 8 & 13 episodes?   As Jaime revealed a few weeks ago, the show was picked up for 21 new episodes. Because of the recent WGA strike, we will only be able to produce 8 episodes in time to air this summer.  The first of those will air July 29, 2008 here in the U.S.  It will be followed by seven more new episodes.  As for the remaining 13 episodes, as of right now we have no idea when they will air.  Trust me, we’re just as anxious to find out as you!  We’ll let you know as soon as we hear something…!

  1. Hey guys, I just watched the season 1 DVDs and I was listen to the podcast where you were talking about how Ed Quinn is also a musician.  I was wondering if you guys knew where I could listen to his music.  We spoke to Ed about this, and his most recent CD is a self-titled Demo called “Quinn.”  He still plays guitar every day.  Just how good is he?  He’s AWESOME.  Ed studied with guitar legend Joe Satriani and played with LA-based rock bands SCATTERGOOD and MAD THEORY.  Trust us, the guy can shred.

  1. About Cafe Diem and the street it’s on, are all sets kept up even during hiatus?  Or do the buildings in Eureka get rebuilt every year? The answer is… both. The outdoor locations for Eureka are shot in the small town of Chilliwack, Canada.  However, production must “dress” (or decorate) the street every time we travel there for shooting, which is only about 7 – 10 days a year.  So, yes we have to “rebuild” the front of Café Diem every time we go back to Chilliwack.  Same goes for the other exterior storefronts.

  1. Will we ever see the chopper on top of Global Dynamics fly? Wow.  Good question.  We keep writing a scene or two every season which takes place on the Global Dynamics landing pad (there was one originally scheduled for Episode 301, “Bad to the Drone”) but they get cut for budgetary reasons. So I guess the answer is… it’s hard to say. We’ll keep trying, though!

  1. About Carter and Allison’s relationship: is it going to continue? They were married in the future and had a child. Since then, it’s felt like he was going to get back to that future. But as the second season went on, the memory of it faded away.  This was strange and sad.  Has this ship sailed?  No. Trust us, Stark’s proposal is just another wrinkle in the ongoing Carter / Allison dynamic. Stay tuned to Season Three to see what happens to your (and our) favorite couple.

  1. This might be an odd question: in several of the 1st season episodes, characters were shown writing on glass marker boards with some sort of erasable pens. (For example, Episode 103 - “Before I Forget” working on the force field equations)  I would very much like to use some of these in my office.  I have searched everywhere for them, but found nothing. Any chance you know what they used in these scenes, and where could I get some?  Sorry to disappoint you, but those clear marker boards were show props made specifically for the episodes. You can’t buy them anywhere, because they aren’t for sale.  We’re just as bummed as you, because we really want one for the writers’ offices here in LA. But Vancouver production already dismantled them.

  1. Does each script have to be pitched and then accepted or rejected by the Network or the Studio?  Or do you pitch a storyline and then get approval for whatever goes along with that?  If so, it must be annoying being a writer and having your work scrutinized by a suit that is not a writer, but just concerned with the business side. YES… every story idea must be agreed upon by our Executive Producers, then pitched and approved by the Sci-Fi Channel (our Network).

  1. It seemed at the end of last season Henry was leaving.  I would hate to see this as he adds such energy on so many levels. Anything you can say about this?  Don’t worry.  Henry WILL be back, but not before facing the consequences of his actions at the end of Episode 213 – “A Night at Global Dynamics.”

  1. I enjoyed the podcasts with Colin Ferguson and crew. I was wondering if there were any plans to finish off season 2, or something lined up for season 3?  Good news.  There will be three NEW podcast commentaries on the Eureka Season Two DVD Box Set. The new podcasts are for the following episodes: 209 – “Sight Unseen,” 210 – “God Is In the Details,” and 211 – “Maneater.” As for the remainder, there were talks to do both (finish off Season Two and continue into Season Three), but nothing has been confirmed yet. As soon as we know, we’ll pass it on to you…
